“A smooth, full-bodied nut brown ale, lightly hopped with a hint of roasted and crystal malts. This ale is dark in color without the heavy taste of porter or stout.” 5.0 % ABV
Purchased from Mar-Val grocery store in Prather.
Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a nonic glass. Pours a deep reddish-brown color, with a pretty typical tan head. Some carbonation is visible, and medium lacing is left on the glass.
Roasted caramel malts are the main aroma, with undertones of bitter dark cocoa, some general sweetness, and earthy hops.
Medium-thin bodied with some carbonation prevalent, but has a relatively soft mouthfeel. Initial flavor is of the roasted caramel malts, mixed with some nutty/earthy hops (almost like black tea). The aftertaste offers a pretty good amount of roasted coffee flavor that lingers slightly bitter on the palate.
Downtown Brown is a pretty decent, easy drinking brown ale. It’s light flavors and low ABV make it reasonable sessionable. That being said, I think this beer could be much better if it offered a little more “oomph” and flavor, as the flavor is done reasonably well. Overall, not too shabby. 6.5/10
