Firestone Walker 805

From the Brewery: 001 (3)

“It’s not a unique idea, but one that everyone on the Central Coast understands… Call something “805” and it means local.  As a regional craft brewer we have always known that the closer the beer is to where it was brewed, the fresher it is.  In fact since 1996 our brewery has been built on fresh, local beers for the Central Coast…. so we created a beer just for our locals in the “805”.” 4.7% ABV

The Pour: 003 (3)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a stange glass. Golden yellow in color, and very clear. The head is decent sized and foamy, slightly off-white in color. Moderate lacing is left on the glass.

The Nose: 004 (3)

Very earthy aromas; flowery honey and citrus hops are prevalent. Faint undertones of sweet malt/barley.

The Mouth:

Very soft and smooth in the mouth, and easy going down. The flavor initially is of the honey-citrus hops, followed by grains and barley. A light combination of these flavors linger in the mouth.

Final Thoughts: 002 (3)

805 is a very drinkable, refreshing summer ale. The flavors are light in the mouth and the beer drinks like a slightly sweetened glass of water. Probably the best honey-blonde ale I’ve had, it’s easy to see bringing a couple of six-packs to a barbecue and having everyone enjoy it. The flavors aren’t earth-shattering to any degree, but are enjoyable in their presentation. I’ve read some pretty negative reviews for this brew on Beer Advocate, and my experience just didn’t match up. I would suggest that if you get your hands on some, make sure it is within the 90 day freshness window, and to keep it in the fridge. This light, delicate beer needs to be enjoyed as fresh as possible. 7.5/10
